The July 2014 DTS went through the Single Life Workshop along with about 60 other people! The following blog post is written by a DTS trainee about their experiences at the workshop:

As the masses of people streamed into the delicatelysingle life decorated Chapel, the crowd glowed with anticipation and excitement at the week that was to come. I entered the hall, nervously at first as I wasn’t sure of what to expect. You see, usually these kinds of workshops teach you how to be happily single for the rest of your life. However, as the days progressed, my expectation was completely obliterated. I began sharing my deepest thoughts and experiences with a bunch of strangers that I had never met before and for some unknown reason, it wasn’t scary, it was freeing.

We were broken up into groups of eight and these people became our families for the course of the workshop. The speakers, a lively couple and two of their sons from Bethel Church in America, started the first session explaining the importance of vulnerability. My group was hungry to find revelation in who Christ had made us to be and what He has in store for us.

We learnt the technique known as the 1-2-3 Skidoo in which we found much freedom through releasing issues that were holding us back. I personally found breakthrough in the feeling of hopelessness, rejection and not being worthy enough to receive love from the opposite sex.

We also had an interactive session where two people were given a relationship scenario and had to work through their differences in perspectives. This portion was particularly helpful in giving us tools about taking away the horribleness of “no” and other issues that arise through rejection. This led us to further explore what a relationship where God is at the center looks like. The importance of this foundation was emphasized when pursuing a relationship with someone of the opposite sex.

My mindset about single life and relationships was completely turned around and now I have gained more confidence in my self-worth and the way in which I approach a friendship with someone of the other gender. A week that I was dreading a lot, turned out to be what I need for this season in my life. I would like to say a big thank you to Bethel for the incredible course that they have put together. This week is one to be remembered and its impact will continue to affect our futures.

Thanks,

Gwenda
