WHAT IS THE MINIMUM/MAXIMUM AGE TO APPLY?

The minimum age for a participant is 13 years old, however we will consider applicants as young as 12 if a youth leader feels it is in the best interest of their group. The maximum age for participants is mid 20s unless coming as a youth leader.

IS THERE A DEADLINE TO APPLY?

The deadline for Make Him Known applications is one month prior to the start date. The reason for this is to ensure we have enough time to process all the relevant paperwork, DBS checks can be completed as necessary, and all the details are finalised with our missions contacts in the various outreach locations well in advance of the start of the programme. All payments must be received no later than 30 days prior to the start of the programme. We strongly encourage participants to apply as early as possible to maximize the time they have to raise funds and awareness for the trip.

HOW DO WE GET TO OUR OUTREACH LOCATION?

We will arrange transportation for your team between the YWAM Harpenden campus and the outreach location. This might be a taxi, bus, train, or a YWAM vehicle.

HOW MANY LEADERS WILL THERE BE?

Each team will have at least one YWAM missionary leading them on outreach. We recommend that a church sends at least one youth leader per ten youth in the group.

WILL WE BE WITH OTHER GROUPS?

Yes, all the groups will participate in the same training and celebration. This is a great opportunity for you to meet others with a missional mindset from different backgrounds and churches. For the outreach portion, you may be the only team travelling to that location, or depending on the size of your group and the location you choose, you may be one of a few teams travelling to the same place. At the end of the day groups will have the opportunity to share with the others about how God used them and what they learnt and experienced while on outreach.

WHERE WILL WE BE STAYING?

Accommodation during the training camp will be camping outdoors in tents for the summer programme. We ask participants to bring their own tents, and youth workers can help with tent sharing arrangements. Please note that male and female participants cannot be in the same tent, and that participants over 18 years of age cannot be in the same tent as participants under 18 unless related or written parental consent is given. If you have any concerns pertaining to accommodation, or any special requirements, please contact us for more information.

WILL THERE BE SHOWERS?

Yes, and please use them!

WHAT ABOUT MEALS?

Main meals will be provided for the duration of the programme. If anyone has an allergy or other dietary requirement we ask you to please inform our staff in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate you accordingly. If participants would like extra snacks, they are welcome to bring or buy their own.

WHAT DO I BRING? CAN I BRING MY PHONE OR LAPTOP?

Less is best when it comes to an event like this! While we do not have a “no-phones” policy, we strongly recommend that phone use is limited to contacting family members and taking photos, it allows you to stay engaged and fully present while participating in Make Him Known. This is already such a short and packed weekend, there will be plenty of time to catch up on Facebook when you get home!

Laptops and tablet devices and other valuables – we recommend you leave these items home. If you choose to bring valuables with you, you do so at your discretion and please be aware that Make Him Known takes no responsibility for any lost or damaged personal items.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A YOUTH LEADER?

We want Make Him Known to be an amazing time for youth workers to connect with their young people. This is why we aim for them to participate in everything with their team. Whether it’s their first or fifty-first evangelism experience, we see the importance of having leadership support. The youth leader is primarily responsible for their youth and our staff will defer to them should any issues arise with any of their young people. They will not be expected to organise any of the practical aspects of the trip such as food, accommodation, ministry, transportation, etc, so that they are free to focus on their group.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE MAKE HIM KNOWN STAFF?

Our staff will coordinate the whole weekend event and take care of all the logistical aspects such as food, accommodation, transportation, ministry, etc. They will look to come alongside and support youth and youth workers workers through encouragement, train ing and discipleship.

If a group is not being accompanied by a youth worker, the Make Him Known staff for that team will be acting in loco parentis for any individual applicants under the age of 18 for the duration of the weekend.
