Inconvenienced by Love

It was a cold rainy morning in Harpenden England. I was battling getting out of bed do to severe back pain. My daughter was late getting up and left in a hurry to catch the bus to school. As she walked out the door, I noticed she was holding her pe kit bag in her hand, hence, it was not in her back pack. I immediately thought “ I hope she doesn’t loose her P E kit. Twenty minutes later, I received a call. A very upset 11 year old was on the line, carrying on about how she left her PE kit at the bus stop or on the bus, and would I walk down to the bus stop to see if her PE kit was there! I was so angry! Angry because I didn’t want to be inconvenienced by having to walk down in the cold rain and with a soar back. Angry because I thought about the money (we didn’t have) we would have to spend if I didn’t find it.

Angry because walking down to the bus stop was not in my morning plans. And if it weren’t for a very still, gentle voice reminding me that I have to allow myself to be inconvenienced by love, this incident would’ve totally ruined my morning. I had a choice. Act in love or do what I had to do as a mother while holding on to the right of being angry because things didn’t go my way. This got me thinking about my way of loving and realized the lesson that my Loving Father taught me through my daughter, needs to become a way of life. I Cor 13:4-6 teaches us to love, teaches us how to be inconvenienced by love. Christ was. How willing are we to follow His example , in the big and the small situations ?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-6
