The printing press changed society and Christianity along with it. It created a way for the Bible to printed and put into the hands of everyday people.

Just as the printing press caused a huge change in communication so has the web. We don’t need to just rely on how much we can afford to print to get our message out there. The playing field has been levelled and we now have the ability to reach the whole world through a simple click.The web has become one of the primary places we go for information and communication. We use it all the time for contacting our friends, checking our finances, finding out about the latest movies, applying for university, buying a new car, it can almost feel like an endless world once we connect. The School of Web Design and Communication (SWDC) was birthed out of the desire and need to see the web playing a greater role in the way we communicate in YWAM. To be able to equip the next wave of missions to be connected and communicating effectively.

Course Overview

The SWDC will equip you in creating cutting edge web sites; learning how to build web sites to modern web standard and to be able to communicate clearly through this medium. You will be given work within teams learning to understand particular roles within the creative team process. By the end of the school you will have learnt about the design, planning and building process of web design; the different roles within creating web communications and be able to use all the tools needed for creating a web-site.

The first three months of the SWDC will take you through all the stages of web design. From the initial stages of registering a web address and sketching out your site ideas all the way through to building a fully managed web-site and utilising the best web communications tools to get your message out there.

  • HTML and CSS coding
  • Content Management Systems
  • Using the Internet for Evangelism and Discipleship
  • Web Marketing

The goal of the SWDC is not just to learn great web design tools but also be able to communicate effectively. The slogan of YWAM is “To Know God and Make Him Known”. This is at the heart of the SWDC. We will be approaching our projects learning how to co-create with God and asking Him to show us more the ways He communicates. Through this you will be able to use the web more effectively to communicate His heart for this world.

Prerequisite

Completion of the Discipleship Training School and Field Assignment (IDS 701/702) or Crossroads Discipleship Training School (IDS 703/704).
