BLOG AT YWAM HARPENDEN

Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a DTS trainee here in Harpenden looks like? Well, DTS trainees are challenged and inspired to learn more and more each and every day. Every day comes with it’s own victories to be won, challenges to face, and lessons to take to heart.

A typical day in the life of a DTS trainee begins with a chorus of alarm clocks singing around the halls of building number nine (trainees dormitories). Each trainee leaves the tranquility of their beds to greet the new day at their own pace, but each find their way across the peaceful dew covered grass of the Oval to breakfast. Soon the silent echo of the community hall is filled with the chatter of staff and trainees alike as they enjoy what is inarguably the most important meal of the day. After breakfast, on the still sleepy Oval, is when many trainees take the opportunity spend time with God before the hustle and bustle of the day starts to set in.

Before you know it, it is time to head over to the factory for a refreshing period of worship and intercession. This time is different each and every day, and allows trainees to worship and hear from God in new ways while bringing the community together. During this time, trainees have the opportunity to worship musically as well as creatively. These experiences ranged from taking time to pray for the nations over a giant floor covered map, sing praises to the Lord, and reading from the entire bible along with the rest of the Oval community.

After morning worship and intercession, it is time to head over to the classroom to hear from this week’s speaker. Lessons involve learning about God’s character, His voice, and His plan for our lives. This week, trainees were able to learn about the Father Heart of God from Johnny Dixon. Classes are an inspirational experience, each speaker interesting and unique, and trainees get even closer as a group through this amazing learning experience.

After a morning tea break with the community, lessons resume until one o’clock and trainees enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by talented staff members. Afternoon for DTS trainees typically involve work duties that help give back to the community hosting us. Jobs can range anywhere from washing up after meals, to gardening, toilet scrubbing or even blog writing!

Late afternoons vary daily, but after dinner trainees head back to the number nine lounge to spend the evenings free time together and relax. Playing sports around the Oval with members of the community has quickly become the July 2015 DTS’s favourite way to unwind. Football and ultimate frisbee have become a staple. In addition to this, many trainees use this time to create music, catch up on book reports, tell stories, or just chat with tea in the lounge. Before you know it, 22:30 curfew rolls around and the nightly routine comes to a close. Trainees reflect on the days activities in their journals, bid sweet dreams to roommates and friends, before finally setting alarms to greet the coming dawn.
