Ever wondered what a day in the life of a DTS trainee would be like? Here is a glimpse into the life of a DTS trainee during their lecture phase!
Beep! Beep! Beep! I quickly try to find my alarm to make the noise stop. My body naturally turns over wanting nothing more than to go back to the glorious peace of sleep. This, however, is not an option for me. I have to get up and do one of my work duties, breakfast set up. I try to stumble out of bed without disturbing my other two sleeping roommates. I am unsuccessful as I slam my foot into the edge of the bed. I’m met with groans as they try to open their eyes only to find that it was me- then grunt and turn back over. As I prepare breakfast, I get to spend much needed time with God. It is one of the few times that the Oval is not alive with the buzz of activity. I am able to just rest in the quiet so that when people start showing up for breakfast, I’m ready to begin my day.
After breakfast, I rush across the dew covered grass and hurry to get ready for the day.
Morning worship to start off the day!
Now, on to one of my favorite parts of my day: morning worship and intersession! I feel refreshed after a time of worship and praying alongside my friends. After the last song, we all head on over to the class room. Every day, I go into class excited to hear what God has to teach me about Himself through the speaker. I never remember saying that in school at home, but now I don’t want to miss a class- even if I feel sick.
We take a tea break to catch up with the Harpenden staff for about twenty five minutes every morning. where we just enjoy a great time of fellowship within the community. This time is preceded with more lectures. We wrap up classes for the day at 1pm and then head into BB Hall to enjoy a wonderful lunch prepared by our dedicated kitchen staff!
The afternoon is filled with work duties and outreach prep. Work duties range from lunch clean up to cleaning our living area. Since mine is in the morning, it gives me a little time to catch up on book reports or some of our other readings. Before dinner, we all meet to plan for our different outreaches. I am a mix of excitement and nerves as we learn about the different cultures and all sorts of activities that we will be helping with during our time abroad. I have no idea what to truly expect, but I know that God has amazing things planned.
Hanging out in #9!
After a delicious dinner, we all gather back at #9 (our trainee housing building) to hang out. If we don’t have any meetings, it’s a chance for us to unwind a little and just enjoy each-others company. Sometimes that means playing games, talking about home or different stories of what has happened in life. Before we realize it, the time is ten thirty and time to turn in for the night. I go through my nightly routine and crawl into my much welcomed bed. After having a small chat with my roomies about our days I finish by writing the important things down in a journal. Closing my eyes, I am tired, but feeling fulfilled, knowing that tomorrow will start all over again shortly.
