“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of

the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

The lunch clean-up crew

We are called to worship with all our being and in everything we do. Our focus should be serving God and other people and setting our needs behind theirs. In daily life, that can sometimes become a challenge or even slip our mind. Part of our school is that we are all involved in work duties during the week as the base survives on the whole community working together as a body. The areas we are involved in go from cleaning and maintenance over hospitality and lunch and dinner clean-up to communications.

As we are already at week 9, we recently rotated work duties in order to work in our different preferences. I personally love that the work duties are so diverse and we are able to get a free taste of different kinds of work. In my time here I have worked in maintenance and have now moved to communications. Like many others perhaps, with maintenance I was thrown into a job where I had no clue what I was doing at first but actually discovered a whole new gifting and passion I did not know I had.  I realised that not only am I blessing the community, but at the same time God is blessing me and giving me a chance to grow and discover ‘new land’.

So even though it might not be obvious, our work duties – not matter how much we enjoy them- are a fundamental part of our training and are really allowing us to grow, mature and know God better.

“Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.

You are serving the Lord Christ.”
